It all depends on how much free and
available chlorine you have in your pool.
Shocking your pool enables the chlorine
level to raise enough and allow the
chloramines or bromines to burn off which
allows your pool water to hold new chlorine
particles so they can go about their job of
killing bacteria in the pool water.
Depending on your bather load and the
temperature of the water will ultimately
determine how often to shock your pool. A
good test kit that allows you to test your
chlorine, free chlorine, and total combined
chlorine in the pool water will let you know
when to shock. If you don't have a free
chlorine reading, then it is time to shock
the pool. |
